This inspirational artwork was born in a meditation, although creating a painting was the farthest thing from my mind at the time. I was requesting guidance on becoming more serene during a particularly difficult time, and the garment was the loving response I received.
When I request guidance in a meditation, my Spirit Guides come to me. Sometimes singly. Sometimes in a group. The one Spirit Guide that comes to me most often, and has been with me the longest, is Wisdom. It isn’t a name you’d expect, except that is exactly what she offers…wisdom.
In the meditation where I was first introduced to the garment, I envisioned Wisdom coming to me with something in her arms. It was emanating light and looked like a piece of clothing. She indicated that I should put it on, and I did. I understood that it was a “Robe of Light.” I also understood that its role was to provide me with the loving support I needed, as well as reminding me that I am a Being of Light, surrounded by light.
In our everyday world, it wasn’t what you call “practical” help. It did give me a solid mental image to hold onto, though. I would envision myself wearing the robe in my meditations and know that I was surrounded by love.
A number of months later the idea popped into my head to create a painting with the robe. It would include words at the top to inspire and to comfort. The idea didn’t come during a sit-down meditation, though. I had gone to the beach to stay for a while, and the idea came while I was walking along the beach. So, the idea came during a “walking” meditation.
The rest is history, you might say. From a comforting vision for myself to a piece of inspirational artwork for you, all based on a vision in a meditation.
Why isn’t it titled Robe of Light? Well, it was a for a long time, as I worked on the piece. I had originally intended to paint it as a white garment. One decision led to another, and I found myself gravitating towards the idea of the garment being “of the stars,” which is what you see.
I had a moment of indecision at the end, when I thought back to my original vision of a white robe. When I asked in a meditation for guidance over which way to go, Wisdom asked me which I preferred, a white garment or a garment of the stars. During the meditation, my mind was open and not clouded by emotion. There was no question in my mind that it should be a cloak made of stars. The meditation had helped me to make a decision.
Will there be a future piece of inspirational artwork to come of a white Robe of Light? Maybe. For now, other ideas, some inspired during meditation, are demanding to be let out!
